March 27th, 2009 Posted in DIARY, My Writing Life, The Other Side Of Me

It’s cold and windy today. I’ve just been up the village with two recipes for my friends Rhoda and Peter Walker. I had them to a meal a couple of nights ago and they liked what I had made. I was flattered. Never had cause to cook until I was on my own. So it was cook or starve ! Now I quite enjoy it. Maybe it’s the creativity and because of that it relates to the creativity of writing. News on the writing front - yesterday I was commissioned to do another novel for my publisher Piatkus. So now much of my time will be dedicated to writing that. Work? Well, I suppose it is but it isn’t a chore if you enjoy it and I do. Always nice to meet with writers - Peter is the person whose books sparked off Heartbeat - we had a good natter. All being well I’ll be meeting more writers next Thursday - RNA meeting near Harrogate. Looking forward to that and also to the ride in my newly purchased car. Keep warm everyone.

Congratulations on being commission to write another for Piatkus. Wonderful news. (I gave a talk on Wednesday night and was chatting to an avid Jessica Blair fan. She’ll be very pleased as she didn’t think you were writing them quickly enough!)

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday!

I didn’t watch Heartbeat but I was sorry to hear they were taking it of our screens. If it had been filmed down South I don’t think they would have scrapped it. It is disgusting the way they have treated Yorkshire TV. We are the biggest county yet seem to be grossly ignored by those in London. Watch the weather forecast for a few nights and you will see what I mean!!!

Shirley : Thanks for that news. Glad I have a fan.

Judith : I agree. The disappearance of Yorkshire TV is a tragedy. Over the years it has produced some of the best drama and was still doing so. A great loss. What will happen? Not more reality shows — oh, please NO. Emphatically NO.
