Stay With Me
March 11th, 2009 Posted in BooksThe cover for my latest hardback, published in February by Piatkus. The story is set in the 19th century commercial and shipping worlds of Whitby and Hull. It tells of the conflict between Lena Carnforth and her step-brother after their parents are killed in the Tay Bridge disaster of 1879. Ambition and the desire for revenge stalk lives with disasterous results that shape futures.
Read and enjoy.

I know they are different genres but the Western cover is more exciting than the historical one. the paint brush is a better tool than the computer; just takes longer. nevertheless the Stay with me cover is attractive. I would like more action on these covers but then the publishers know best. Do you have much say in the jacket design?

Judith - I generally receive a draft copy of the cover. I did in this case - commenting on that I suggested that the ships be made a little bigger to represent ocean going vessels.
Watch out for the cover of the Large Print of WINGS OF SORROW coming in June. That is a completely different cover to the original hardback edition. I discussed the background for the Large Print edition with the publishers and they incorporated my suggestions.

I look forward to seeing that.
