Holiday

September 9th, 2010 Posted in DIARY, The Other Side Of Me

I’ve been away so no blogs. Now back in the saddle.

I’ve had a long weekend with my eldest daughter visiting her yougest son and his wife viewing the house they have just moved into in the Lancaster area. Apart from a very heavy downpour while on a section of the M6, so heavy it was forcing motorists to slow down, we had excellent weather. Had a very pleasant day in Kirby Lonsdale, enjoyed Lancaster’s Saturday Market. On the way to Lancaster we visited one of my twin daughters to have lunch and see the new kitchen she has just had installed. We took the country route home.

Then I have had a week in Weardale, only about 2+ hours from me but an area I had never visited. We were about 25 miles west of Durham. Though I had visited some of the eastern part of Durham County and Durham City itself on previous occasions I had never explored the west of the County.  I go back a long way and remember the days when Durham County conjoured up coal and mining. I had not realised that to the west of that was a beautiful and fascinating landscape of expansive views, remote villages, steep hills (I was glad I had power in my car’s engine). I learned something this year. Hexham Abbey and Durham Cathedral were entrancing. And I must say we met some of the most friendliest people I have ever come across.  Lots of pictures taken. I must get them downloaded and maybe put some on a future blog.
