Pretty Charlotte Campion is adored by her older husband Charles, and cherished by her wealthy parents. With Charles away on business, Charlotte's parents take her to Whitby, where a chance encounter with Richard Parker changes her life. Charlotte's father commissions Richard to paint her portrait, and invites him back to London with them. But then Richard and Charlotte fall in love, and Richard, fearful of the social ruin, decides to part with the woman he loves.
