When Arthur Newton announces that he is leaving his secure job, with the expanding railway system in nineteenth century Leeds, to pursue his dream of becoming a professional artist he meets opposition from his wife, Rose, who only agrees if certain conditions are met. He becomes a competent selling artist but loses the spark of inspiration that could raise him to the heights he desires until one day he visits Whitby and meets Colette, a young woman trying to embark on a career in the new and growing world of photography. Their careers glow until Rose and Colette meet and Arthurs secrets are exposed. But other secrets still lurk in the background until many years later a chance meeting with a stranger ..........
