My New Novel (Title Unknown)

When I finish writing my latest book I usually take a couple of months break from any actual writing But that does not mean that writing has been dismissed from my mind completely. Ideas for the next novel will come to mind and by the end of that two months I will be ready to start developing the idea that has taken my fancy. I am at that stage now having had  two months break since I sent the manuscript of A TAPESTRY OF DREAMS to my publisher, PIATKUS. I recently visited my publisher in London. I had two ideas in mind but after that contact I came away with another possibility. During the two hour train ride back to York that possibility had grown to the point where I contacted Piatkus the next day to say, that was the novel I would develop. After Easter I will start work on  a  brief outline and first Chapter to gain their final approval and contract. This is an exciting time for me – meeting, talking with and listening to new chief characters; others will appear as the story develops.

I hope soon to put the title of the new novel on a post here – I like to have a suitable title at the start of a new novel as it focuses my mind on the story.

ART EXHIBITION

P1040584

Judith Gilbert, born in Ampleforth, North Yorkshire and now living near Haworth, is displaying her colourful paintings in Ripon Cathedral, the first of three major art exhibitions there this year.

Judith has severe Rheumatoid Arthritis in her hands and yet still manages to produce small images in detail in which she explores relationships of colour, shape and pattern within the narrative tradition of painting. She has been influenced by medieval and Eastern art and Russian artist Ivan Bilibin.

Because the disease in her shoulders prevents her from working large, her small pictures are sometimes put together to make one painting that tells a larger story. Her love of animals led her to paint Biblical themes and recently she has used them to explore the mythical subject of ‘The Tree of Life’.

Judith studied Art at Birmingham and went on to teach Art at Ampleforth College and at various schools in the North Riding. She was artist-in-residence at Bradford Cathedral and after exhibiting work there also showed at Saltaire Methodist Church during the Art Festival. She has also shown at Bradford Open Exhibition, Cartwright Hall, Manningham Mills, Nunnington Hall and The Old Meeting House in Helmsley as well as in many Open and joint exhibitions, including London and Chicago.

Her twin sister, Geraldine, and Nigel her brother-in law live in Lincolnshire and also paint. Together they formed Ambo Arts, exhibiting together and individually and have had their inaugural exhibition at Arts Coritani, Boston, Lincolnshire.

Judith’s exhibition at Ripon Cathedral takes place from the 6th to the 29th April 2013.

IN THE SILENCE OF THE SNOW

Monday’s interview on BBC Radio Tees went down well. It was a live presentation  –  Desert Island Discs style.

I was thankful that the weather behaved reasonably well as I had 35 miles each way to travel through the hills of North-east Yorkshire. Snow flurries did not develop into anything worse and the roads were kept clear. I hope they remain that way for Saturday when I cover some of the same route through the hills to reach Guisborough for a signing session at the Guisborough Bookshop.

JESSICA BLAIR NEWS

It has been an exciting time. THE ROAD BENEATH ME (paperback) and IN THE SILENCE OF THE SNOW (hardback) were published in January. They generated publicity after some press releases especially one that appeared in MAIL ONLINE. That was seen all over the world and I had comments ranging from Sydney, Australia to Alaska ! I was interviewed on European Radio,  BBC Look North, BBC Radio York, BBC Radio Tees (Coming up onMonday 11th March). I have had a signing session at the Whitby Bookshop, and have another  on 16th March at Guisborough Bookshop. I was interviewed, via Skype , for television CNN, Atlanta, USA, and  an item appeared with NBC Today, both of which brought reaction from a range of newspapers and magazines.

My latest offering A TAPESTRY OF DREAMS (unless the title is changed) is with my publisher PIATKUS, an imprint of the Little Brown Book Group. Having had a six weeks break , though ideas are always buzzing around, I have now settled into doing a short outline for a new novel which I will put to my publisher and hopefully they will like it. More on that later.
